At North Georgia Vein Institute, we specialize in venous disorders. You can breathe easy knowing we can treat vein disease with little or no pain and discomfort to our patients. Our Vein Procedures Include:

Phlebectomy – Damaged veins on the leg’s surface are removed through tiny punctures. No stitches needed.

Perforator Sclerotherapy – Used on larger varicose veins. A foaming, sclerosing agent is injected into perforating or communicating veins.

Radiofrequency Ablation – Minimally invasive, requiring only a tiny incision. Radiofrequency energy is used to close off diseased veins.

*Compression Stockings – For keeping compression on veins and as a treatment for vein disease. Always prescribed after a vein procedure by our specialists.

*Sclerotherapy – Time-tested procedure for spider veins. Sclerosing solution is injected into spider veins. This procedure is performed by our Physician Assistant, Dawn Ferrer. This is considered a cosmetic service and not covered by insurance.

Phlebectomy is a procedure used typically to treat superficial (just under the skin) varicose veins. Small, microincisions are made next to the diseased varicose vein, and the vein is removed through the incision. Because these veins are so easily collapsible, even large veins can be removed through the tiny phlebectomy incisions with ease.

How a Phlebectomy Works

  1. A local anesthetic is applied to the affected area
  2. A microincision or puncture is made next to the varicose vein
  3. A tiny phlebectomy hook is inserted under your leg’s skin
  4. The hook removes the varicose vein or part of the vein through the incision
  5. Your leg is wrapped in a compression bandage

After your phlebectomy procedure, we gently wrap your leg(s) in a compression bandage and prescribe a compression stocking to aid in your healing process.

Advantages of Phlebectomy

  • Minimally invasive
  • Outpatient procedure
  • No stitches required
  • Virtually no scarring
  • Takes one hour or less
  • Quick recovery
  • Can usually resume normal activities in one to two days
  • Often covered by insurance companies when patient has been diagnosed with venous reflux

Perforator Sclerotherapy

Perforator sclerotherapy is a treatment for vein disorders in the perforator veins. Often called communicating veins, the perforator veins connect the veins on your skin’s surface to the deep veins under your muscles. This procedure is similar to cosmetic sclerotherapy in that sclerosing agents are used in both procedures. Perforator sclerotherapy, however, is used more for treating larger varicose veins, and we use a foaming sclerosing agent instead of a liquid sclerorant.

How Perforator Sclerotherapy Works

  1. A local anesthetic is applied to the affected vein area
  2. Your treatment area is sterilized
  3. Using a fine needle that is ultrasound guided, we inject a foaming sclerosing agent into the varicose vein
  4. One injection is usually administered for each inch of vein treated
  5. The vein or veins react to the fluid
  6. The vein collapses on itself and stops functioning
  7. New tissue gradually replaces the vein
  8. A bandage is applied after the procedure

Advantages of Perforator Sclerotherapy

  • Minimally invasive
  • Outpatient procedure
  • Minimum pain during and after
  • No stitches required
  • Takes 15 to 45 minutes
  • Quick recovery
  • Few side effects
  • Can resume most normal activities the same day or next
  • Often covered by insurance companies when patient has been diagnosed with venous reflux

Radiofrequency Ablation

Radiofrequency ablation (also known as Venefit™ Targeted Endovenous Therapy) is one of several non-surgical treatments that our clinic offers for varicose veins and incompetent perforator veins. We use the Venefit™ procedure to apply controlled radiofrequency (RF) energy to a diseased vein, causing it to seal shut and re-route blood through a healthy vein.

How Radiofrequency Ablation Works
A local anesthetic is applied to the affected vein
Our doctor makes a small opening in the skin on your leg
Using ultrasound, he positions a tiny catheter in the diseased vein
The catheter, using the radiofrequency energy, delivers heat to the vein wall
The vein wall shrinks and the vein is sealed
Blood reroutes to a healthy vein in your leg

After your procedure is completed, our specialists will place a bandage at the insertion site. As part of your treatment regimen and our way of ensuring you get the best results possible, you will be required to wear a compression stocking and asked to limit standing for long periods of time or participating in strenuous activities for two full weeks.

Advantages of Radiofrequency

  • Minimally invasive
  • In-office outpatient procedure, meaning no hospitalization necessary
  • Less pain and complications than with traditional vein stripping or surgery
  • Normal activities resumed in one to two days
  • No scars or scratches
  • Minimal bruising or swelling
  • Symptoms typically improve within one to two weeks
  • Procedure takes an hour or less to perform
  • Often covered by insurance companies when patient has been diagnosed with venous reflux

Compression Stockings

When people think of compression stockings, the first thing that often comes to mind are images of thick, unattractive anti-embolism stockings, similar to something you might see in a hospital setting. Thankfully, the fashion of compression hosiery has changed drastically over the years, so you can benefit from wearing these products without sacrificing your style and confidence.

At North Georgia Vein Institute, we proudly offer Cummings, Canton, Gainesville and surrounding area residents a wide array of attractive, fashion-forward compression stockings by Juzo and Jobst. Designed with your ultimate comfort in mind, our compression stockings are:

  • Comfortable and breathable
  • Available in a wide variety of colors, styles and sizes
  • Manufactured with latex-free fibers
  • Soft, cozy and easy to wear
  • Equipped with anti-microbial and odor reducing technologies
  • Machine washable/dryable

Compression hosiery has proven to be effective in minimizing swelling and improving circulation, which is why you’re required to wear compression hosiery as part of your varicose or spider vein treatment regimen here at North Georgia Vein Institute. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like additional information about our array of compression stockings.

Since the 1930s, doctors throughout the world have commonly used sclerotherapy to effectively eliminate smaller, rather uncomplicated spider veins.

How Sclerotherapy Works

  1. Using a fine needle, we inject a sclerorant (fluid) into the spider vein
  2. The vein or veins react to the fluid, swell and stick together
  3. The vein collapses on itself and stops functioning

Advantages of Sclerotherapy

  • Minimally invasive
  • Outpatient procedure
  • Relatively pain free
  • No stitches required
  • Takes 15 to 45 minutes
  • Quick recovery
  • Very little pain
  • Few side effects
  • Can resume most normal activities immediately
